Biography Brigid Mulligan
Brigid Mulligan is a visual artist from county Longford, Ireland. She studied Sculpture at ATU Galway receiving a BA Hons degree in 2009 and continued her education there graduating from the master’s in creative Practice in 2018. Her work examines alternative shrines and questions the role creativity can play in processing grief and loss. Her work has been exhibited in various Museums and Galleries nationally and internationally including Queen Street Studios, Belfast, Pallas, Projects & Studios, Dublin, Artlink Fort Dunree Donegal, and a dual exhibition ‘It comes in waves’, with artist Katie Moore in the Custom House Ennistimon Co. Clare. ‘Dear PrEUdence, ATU Group exhibition, EU Parliament Brussels and Infinite Possibilities, Galway International Arts Festival, Engage Gallery, Galway. In August 2025 Brigid will host a pop up ‘The Freebird’s M.C.C Project’ event at 126 Gallery Galway. In October 2025 she will have a solo exhibition titled ’74 Summers’, at Interface, Inagh, Co. Galway and in 2026 this exhibition will tour to Cavan Townhall Theatre and Gallery.
She received an Artist support scheme from Galway County council in 2025, Agility Award from the Arts Council of Ireland and a Mobility Award from Culture Moves Europe in 2024. An Arts Participation Bursary from the Arts Council of Ireland, Cavan Studio Award, Townhall Theatre & Cavan County Council, Artist Support Scheme, Galway County Council in 2023. The Seed Grant from the Irish Hospice Foundation 22/23. The Project Realisation Award Artist in the Community from Create & the arts Council IRE Artist in the community, R&D award with mentoring from Create IRE & the Arts Council, Agility Award from the Arts Council of Ireland & Artist Support Scheme, Galway County Council 2021. Professional Development Award from the Arts Council Ireland 2020.
‘The Freebird’s M.C.C Project’ is an ongoing collaboration with her fellow club members the Freebird’s Motorcycle club from Longford. Through co-creating work, the group explore shared histories and the significant loss of three club members due to road traffic accidents.
She has undertaken numerous residencies including Fish Factory, Iceland, Interface, Inagh, Galway, Cavan Townhall Studio, Creative Spark, Dundalk, 126 Gallery Galway, Cill Rialaig, Ballinaskelligs, Kerry, Tyrone Guthrie Bursary and two virtual residencies with DAS Studios Belfast.
